Offshore Structure Design, Construction and Maintenance
Professional one-to-one training by ELREEDYMAN

COURSE OVERVIEW

This course provides a complete, practical understanding of the design, construction and maintenance of offshore platforms. It begins with a review of the fundamentals of all types of offshore structures, then focuses in detail on fixed offshore structures.

Participants will learn wave theory and the design of jackets and topsides in accordance with API, ISO and DNV, including how to identify all the loads that act on the structure and how the structure behaves under them. The course also covers the construction stages (fabrication, load out, launching and installation) from a design point of view, together with construction management and practical site experience. Finally, it presents the integrity management of a platform fleet through a case study, using qualitative and quantitative risk assessment to define the scope of underwater inspection.

COURSE FORMAT

The training consists of 10 sessions:

  • 8 live one-to-one sessions
  • 2 recorded SACS overview sessions on Udemy, which you can replay as many times as you need, with guaranteed sound and video quality

Unlike group courses, this training is built around offshore structure work and tailored to each participant. Sessions focus on your own experience and needs. Each live session lasts about 1.5 to 2 hours, and dates and times are flexible according to your time zone.

COURSE OUTLINE

Session 1: Types of Offshore Structures and Project Management
Covers all types of offshore structures and the limits of their use. It explains how offshore project management differs from other projects, especially the interface between the engineering, construction and installation teams, and the components of fixed offshore structures and topside facilities.

Session 2: Loads on Fixed Offshore Structures
Covers live, wind, earthquake and wave loads based on API RP 2A, as well as the loads caused by marine growth and scour, from both theoretical and industrial points of view.

Session 3: Design of Structural Members
Covers the design of tubular members, joint cans, boat landings and riser guards with real examples, the principles of helideck design, and the types of fatigue analysis.

Session 4: Geotechnical Investigation and Pile Design
Covers geotechnical investigation and test equipment, how to prepare the scope of work for a geotechnical company, P-y, T-z and Q-z curves, offshore pile design, soil-structure interaction and pile drivability.

Session 5: Construction Steps and Quality Control on Site
Covers the construction sequence, quality control methods and site management during construction.

Session 6: Load Out and Launching
Explains why understanding construction and installation methods is essential to design, since many design parameters depend on them. Case studies from different projects and locations are presented with photos, videos and related documents.

Session 7: Lifting Analysis and Calculation
Covers the factors and loads used in practical lifting calculations, including sling loads and pad eye loads, the types of pad eyes and their design with examples, and the use of software and modeling in lifting analysis, so that you can perform lifting calculations on your own.

Session 8: Integrity Management System for a Platform Fleet
Covers risk-based inspection for topside and underwater, traditional and advanced methods of repair and load reduction, pushover analysis to evaluate the structure and calculate its probability of failure, topside and underwater inspection and repair methods with examples, and up-to-date methods for assessing mature offshore structures.

SACS Overview (recorded on Udemy)
Module I: Introduction to SACS, in-place analysis, and pile-soil interaction and dynamic analysis with an example.
Module II: Fatigue, earthquake, sea fastening, and load out and launching analysis.

ADVANCED SACS COURSE: REAL FIXED PLATFORM CASE STUDY

A separate course of 6 recorded parts on Udemy that covers the SACS modules through a real fixed offshore platform project:

Part 1: Project overview, drawings and running the in-place analysis
Part 2: In-place analysis with the PSI module and dynamic analysis
Part 3: Spectral fatigue analysis
Part 4: Collapse analysis and seismic analysis
Part 5: Lifting analysis, load out and sea fastening
Part 6: Transportation (tow) and bottom stability

Course materials include detailed construction drawings, calculation reports for all SACS modules, the SACS input files, Excel calculation sheets, and step-by-step presentations for every SACS module. You will learn the best way to review and check engineering calculations or to build your model from scratch for your future projects.
